2004 Sherwin Williams Exterior Paints on PVC Composite Board. 20'x40' (6.1m x 12.2m)
Mural painted on the Town of Oswego Volunteer Fire Department, commemorating the tragedy of 9/11. It can be found at 640 County Route 20, Oswego, NY
This large canvas mural measures 8' x' 10' and is painted in oil.
It features five gentlemen from different US wars. From left to right, The Persian Gulf War (1990-1991), Mexican Border War, (1910-1919), Vietnam War (1955-1975), WWII (1939-1945), and WWI (1914-1918). Surrounding the veterans are their official service portraits, along with their respective patches and badges.
In the background, clouds are painted in the shapes (from right to left) of a Minuteman, an American Bald Eagle, and The Statue of Freedom designed by Clark Mills and Thomas Crawford, that sits atop the US Capitol Building in Washington, DC.
You can view the painting at the Syracuse VA Medical Center at 800 Irving Avenue, but may have to ask where it is located, as they like to move it around the building every few years.
A large-scale canvas mural to commemorate US Congressional Medal of Honor recipients from Central New York State. This piece was produced over a 6 month period (with only 4.5 months of actual painting, 7 days per week, at 12 hour shifts) in 1992.
The main panels, from left to right, represent different military branches during various wars and conflicts. The first is the US Marine Corp during WWII. The second, Naval Air Force, also during WWII. Third, the US Army during the Korean War, and the last during Vietnam. All of the servicemen with "the thousand mile stare".
Along the bottom are the various medal designs throughout history, with the modern version at center, getting older as you move towards the outside of the painting.
Placed throughout the mural are (painted) "taped up photographs". These pictures are portraits of the medal recipients, including Oswego, NY's very own Mary Edwards Walker, the only female recipient of the US Congressional Medal of Honor, for her bravery during the Civil War.
You can view this mural on the 2nd Floor of the Oncenter War Memorial, on the Montgomery Street side.
